Fundamental Do's & Don't's of Photography

As with all forms of art, photography carries several conventions that, when used correctly, can mean the difference between an amateur image and an absolute masterpiece. When taking photographs, always follow these simple rules to ensure that you are creating a work of art with every click of your shutter.

Do zoom in on your subject/crop your image to maintain a focal point

Don't allow for the subject to be dwarfed by other forms in the image

Do expose for the subject

Don't underexpose photographs

Do use negative space to create interest, tension, and provide framing

Don't fill your viewfinder with only positive space

Do create a focal point using the rule of thirds and complimentary colours

Don't take an image without a focal point

By following these quick and easy photography rules, even the most novice photographer can showcase their own works of art with pride.
